*PUBLIC NOTICE

The Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is considering a request for an Energy Transition Community Grant from Lincoln Land Community College to renovate Workforce Careers Center for the Welding Program for the purpose of enhancing learning environments and offering expanded program areas. The project will be located at 5250 Shepherd Road, Springfield, IL 62794-9256.

The expansion of the welding program at Lincoln Land Community College is an essential step in helping our community address the growing skills gap within the trades. Welding is a critical skill that directly supports numerous industries, including manufacturing, construction, automotive, and aerospace. By doubling our program鈥檚 capacity, we can significantly increase our ability to train and upskill individuals within existing and emerging markets, ensuring a steady supply of qualified professionals to meet the escalating demand for skilled workers. This expansion not only aligns with industry needs but also empowers our students with valuable, in-demand skills, contributing to both their personal career growth and the economic development of our community. This expansion will more than double the annual capacity from 16 to 36 welding booths.

A public meeting will be held on July 24, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at Lincoln Land Community College, Robert H. Stephens Room for the purpose of discussing the proposed use of the Energy Transition Community Grant funds. If you have any information or questions regarding the proposed project, please provide it in writing to:
